Row 6, Plots 9 & 10, CLEMENT, Joseph Henry & Jessie Mae (Smith)



Joe, 71, was a retired Cotton Belt RR car inspector.  He died at the company hospital at Texarkana, Arkansas.  He was a native of Grant County the son of Benjamin and Martha Jane Watts Clement.  

He moved to Pine Bluff when he was a young man and went to work for the Cotton Belt in 1917 in the car department.  He went to World War II and returned to his job in the car department until he retired in 1958.  

He was a Baptist and a member of the Brotherhood of RR Carmen of America, Cotton Belt Lodge #7.  

Funeral services were conducted by Ralph Robinson's with Rev. Levi Reynolds and E. W. Johnson officiating.  

He and Jessie Mae were married on October 27, 1922.  

Jessie Mae died at the age of 54 at Davis Hospital.  She was born in Kingsland the daughter of Ed and Effie Haynie Smith.  

She received her education at Hermitage.   She moved to Pine Bluff when she married Joe.  They had two daughters, Effie Jane Clement Hall, Betty Jo Clement Hartwick and one son, Ralph Henry Clement.  

She was a Baptist and a member of the Loyal Star of the Carmen Auxiliary.  

Her funeral was conducted by Ralph Robinson's with Rev.  E. W. Johnson and Ben Wofford officiating.
